The union is overseen by an elected national executive council of ordinary members of the union and the union is answerable to all our members.
UNISON’s rules govern the way the union runs and how various parts of the union, including branches, regions, service groups and membership groups work. They also outline the rights and responsibilities of members.
We have a national meeting of our Deaf members (called the Deaf BSL Caucus) which meets at National Disabled Members Conference, there is also a Network day for Deaf members in the summer.
At National Disabled Members Conference the Deaf BSL caucus elects 2 Deaf members (who must be BSL users) to be part of the National Disabled Members Committee, their role is to represent Deaf members’ issues, advise the committee on cultural and linguistic issues and assist in formulating the unions policy for Deaf and Disabled members in UNISON.
